The 2002 Chevy Avalanche 1500 is going to come factory standard with A5.3L Vortec V8 engine. There was also an upgrade option available for a much largeR8.1L V8 engine. If You have the standard engine You'll have a capacity of 6 US quarts when the filter is included and You'll need to run it on 5W-30 synthetic motor oil. If You instead have the upgraded engine the capacity will be slightly larger at 6.4 US quarts including the filter but it will run on the same 5W-30 oil as the standard model. The oil on these vehicles is going to need to be changed out every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.
