The type of coolant that is recommended for the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is orange Dex Cool; 50/50 Pre-Diluted. The capacity of fluid for the vehicle is 15.2 quarts for the initial fill. There is some controversy with Dex-cool claiming that it should be changed every 50,000 miles rather than the 100,000 miles it says or it might end up destroying the engine. There was even A-A-Classction lawsuit filed and won by people claiming it damaged their engine. Even though it might say it only needs changed every 100,000 miles, it is probably safer if You change it every 50,000 miles. The cost to get it changed is between $100 and $120 in labor costs and extra for parts.
