The 2003 Volkswagen Beetle uses SAE 5W-30 motor oil. Volkswagen recommends that You use synthetic oil when You need to change it as well. Motor oil comes in two main varieties, synthetic or conventional. Synthetic is made in a laboratory to provide the best lubrication, and conventional is the byproduct of MINIng oil out of the ground. Synthetic on average will need to be changed every 7,500 miles and conventional needs to be changed every 3,500 to 5,000 miles. Make sure to check Your oil at least once a month to make sure that the levels are correct and that it is free from debris. Debris can be a sign of internal damage to Your engine You will want to get looked at.
