The starter solenoid on the 2004 Honda CR-V is located on the base of the engine next to the starter motor. It is a small black cylinder that is mounted next to it. The starter solenoid has the job of engaging the starter motor's gear with the rest of the engine. If the starter is not engaging and is spinning freely then the engine will not be able to start. Usually that is a sign that the solenoid is failing and will need to be replaced. The solenoid is also there to help protect Your starter motor while the engine is running since it would always be turning the motor and could damage it.
