The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee uses an STP S16 oil filter on the vehicle. This is a standard style metal filter that threads onto the bottom of the engine next to the oil pan. The oil filter in Your car should be changed every time that You change Your oil. If You add new oil to an old filter it can allow contaminants to leak out of it into the oil and then those may make their way back to the engine where they can cause damage. I recommend always using the best filter You can afFord, especially on an older car, because it just adds a better layer of protection for Your engine from potential damage.
