The 2004 Kia Sorento transmission fluid is a dexron VI. This is the recommended fluid suggested by the manufacturer. It is always a good idea to follow this, if You want the best performance of Your transmission. Failure to use optimal fluids could lead to gear slipping and hard shifting. The fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles to 60,000 miles. So You really will be changing this only a few times for the lifetime of the car. To check levels of Your fluid, You can locate the dipstick in the hood and pull it out. The stick will have oil on it indicating the current level. If it is low, then fill it up. If it is within range of a change, then take it in to be changed promptly.
