The 2004 Nissan Maxima speed sensor is on the output shaft from the transmission to the transaxles. This sensor is there to measure the rotation of the shaft to give You a reading at Your speedometer. If Your speedometer is not working then there may be a problem with the sensor. You will want to inspect it and make sure that all of the wires are connected properly and that the sensor is free from any signs of damage. Usually if You have a failed sensor You will get a check engine light as well since the ECU would not be getting a reading from it anymore and that would throw a code.
