The 2004 Nissan Titan's TCM or transmission control module should be found behind the kick panel on the passenger side of the cabin. It is above the ECU. It is small metal device equipped with a plug-in feature that contains monitoring software for optimal shifting. The TCM uses data supplied from the driver's brake pedal position, wheel sensors, throttle position sensor and the transmission temperature sensor to manage gear and shift timing. If the TCM is going bad, a driver will experience difficulty downshifting when slowing down or coming to a complete stop; slippage, slowed or delayed upshifting when accelerating; or shifting to neutral without driver input. The cost to replace the tranny's module in a Titan retails around $870-$950 in parts and labor.
