The shift solenoid on Your 2005 Chevrolet Impala is located on the valve body, just inside the side cover of the transmission cover. You'll need to lift the engine to get to this, most likely, so unless You've got the specialized equipment to do it, this is going to be one to take to the pros. Some signs that You've got a bad shift solenoid are going to include having erratic shifting or shift slippage, as well as a transmission that won't let You shift into the various gears. Most the time, You'll also have the check engine light (CEL) malfunction indicator illuminate to alert You to the condition.
