The 2005 Ford Explorer 4.0 DPFE sensor can be found behind the upper intake manifold between the firewall and engine block near the EGR valve. The Differential Pressure Feedback ExhauSTSensor, or DPFE sensor, is part of the vehicle's exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. The sensor monitors and measures the pressure with the EGR valve. This prevents the valve from malfunctioning and allowing too much exhaust into the intake manifold at one time. Common signs of a bad or failing DPFE sensor include engine performance issues like rough idle and decrease in power, failing an emissions test, and the Check Engine Light coming on.
