The 2005 Toyota Corolla heater control valve is on the inlet or the outlet port of the heater core. This valve is controlled by a cable that runs along with the system and opens and closes it as coolant needs to flow through the heater core. If this valve is not working then You will find that the car overheATS-Very quickly. This is due to the lack of coolant making it to the heater core and by extension the engine. If the car is overheating then You run the risk of warping or cracking the head gasket. This is a multi-thousand dollar fix, so You do not want this to happen. If You are overheating park the car and call for a tow truck.
