The camshaft position sensor location in the 2006 GMC Canyon is at the top of the engine. The purpose of the sensor is to pinpoint the position of the crankshaft drive. Information on the position is sent to the ECU in conjunction with info from the crankshaft position sensor to essentially monitor the intake, exhaust, combustion, and compression but checking the valves in each cylinder. If Your camshaft has begun to fail You may notice issues such as a rough idle, frequent stalling, low engine power, or a reduction in gas mileage. The Check Engine light will also come on. You may also run into a problem with starting the car if the issue is not resolved. A replacement sensor is a very affordable procedure costing an estimated $50 to $60 for parts and $70 to $80 for labor.
