The 2006 GMC Sierra uses ATF+4 power steering fluid. This will be filled at the power steering reservoir and pump that are located in the engine compartment. Your truck uses a hydraulic power steering system. This system pumps fluid through lines to the steering rack to aid You when You need to turn. If You notice that steering has gotten heavier than average on Your truck You may be low on fluid in the system. You will want to make sure to check the lines as well as the pump for any signs of leaks that have developed over time and replace any damaged components to keep Your steering working perfectly.
