The crankshaft position sensor in the 2006 Mercedes ML350 is located at the rear side of the engine near the firewall on the driver side. It is covered by the heat shield. The purpose of this senor is to send information to the ECU about the crankshaft position and the rotational speed of the engine. It works together with the camshaft position sensor which monitors the camshaft position and opening of each valve on the engine cylinders. Symptoms of a bad crankshaft position sensor include vibration of the engine, poor engine performance, stalling, mIS Firing of one of multiple cylinders, and an illuminated Check Engine light. The replacement cost for a new sensor is around $50 to $65 for parts and $90 to $105 for labor.
