The 2006 VW Passat camshaft position sensor can be found on the back of the engine below the valve cover and near the timing cover. This sensor has the job of measuring where the camshaft is in its rotation in Your engine. The camshaft position sensor has the job of letting Your ECU know when to add air, fuel, and spark to the engine to complete the combustion. When it is not working properly the engine may run very rough and will likely not be able to idle well. Usually when there is a problem with the sensor there will be a code that is stored in the ECU that will turn on a check engine light on Your dash to let You know to get it inspected.
