The O2 sensors on a 2006 VW Passat can be found on the exhaust near the catalytic converter on the passenger side of the engine compartment. You will need to get under the vehicle to see them, but they are screwed into bungs in the exhaust and they have wires running to them. The O2 sensors in Your vehicle measure the exhaust gasses to determine the air to fuELRatio and give information to the ECU on how much air and gasoline the engine needs. This helps Your engine run more reliably, as well as improves Your fuel economy. If You notice that Your engine is running poorly it may need a new O2 sensor, or the wiring may have gotten loose to one.

The o2 sensors in your 2006 vw passat are located before and after your vehicle's catalytic converter.
