The 2008 BMW X5 does not have an oil dipstick and instead has a way to check the oil in the settings menu in the infotainment system. To do this You will from the main menu go to the "vehicle Info" button and then find/click "Vehicle Status". There will be an option after You get inside of that subtype where it says "oil level" and this will show You the status indicator for the levels. They are now doing this in more cars to help with people who are not familiar with checking their oil to make it user friendly. It will notify You clearly if You need some oil and this is good to check every month because of the previous issues with the BMW oil starving engine that has been a problem for many consumers.
