The 2008 Cadillac DTS purge valve is located on a vacuum line above the evap canister. The valve is a part of the emissions system along with the evap canister. The canister holds activated charcoal that cleans and traps fuel and other car emissions. The cleaned emissions are then removed through the purge valve. These are two different parts, but some people refer to them as one and use interchangeable names. That said if the car is having fuel smells then You will need to check the system. Breathing these fumes is unhealthy and is bad for the environment. You don't need to rush to get this fixed, but it does need to be taken care of sooner rather than later.
