There are 5 motor mounts that are on the 2008 Chevy Impala. Two of the mounts are located under the front of the engine, one is under the center of the engine, and two are at the rear of the engine. The motor mounts on Your engine help isolate the motor from the rest of the vehicle and prevent it from transmitting vibrations throughout the car. Motor mounts have been known to fail in the past as well as the rubber components in them wear out and collapse over time. If You notice that Your vehicle is vibrating more than normal, or that the engine is twisting in the engine compartment when You accelerate that can be a sign of a failed mount.
