The starter on the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu is located on the passenger side of the engine, towards the front and bottom. If You look where the oil dipstick is, it is located towards the bottom of that. The starter is a device used to crank the engine to be able to start it, without it the car wouldn't be able to start. The starter for the Malibu should last for around 100,000 to 150,000 miles or so. You can tell when it is going bad when the car won't start but You hear a clicking noise when trying to start it, the engine won't crank or smoke is coming from the car. The cost to replace the starter is anywhere from $80 to $100 in labor costs and extra for parts.
