The 2008 Dodge Avenger coolant temperature sensor is at the rear of the head on the left side of the engine. If the coolant temperature sensor goes bad it can send a false signal to the computer and throw off the fuel and timing calculations. It is not uncommon for the coolant temperature sensor to fail and send a permanently cold signal to the computer. The most common symptoms of a bad engine coolant temperature sensor are check engine light, poor engine performance, overheating, hard starting condition, and the electric cooling fans won't start.
