The purge valve on a 2008 GMC Sierra can be found next to the EVAP canister that is located on the top of the fuel tank. This valve is able to release built up pressure from the fuel system to allow it to function well. If Your purge valve gets stuck opened or closed You will usually get a check engine light on Your dash because the fumes will build up and cause an EVAP sensor to trip. If it is open You will notice that there is a massive EVAP leak. Whenever You notice that there are problems with Your vehicle running rough the purge valve is one of the first things to check to make sure the fuse and wiring to it is fine.

The purge valve in the 2008 gmc sierra is positioned in the vacuum line between the fuel vapor container and the intake manifold.
