The 2008 Honda Element has a recommended oil type of 5W-20 full synthetic motor oil. It is good practice to always use the oil the manufacturer suggests to use. This keeps Your engine running in top shape, as it is optimized to use that oil. This car has A5 quart capacity, so try not to overfill it, if You are doing a regular top up by Yourself. If You do want to do a full oil change Yourself, You can purchase the oil at Autozone or similar stores. If You take it in to a shop, it will run about $100 to $150 for a standard change. The process usually takes an hour or less, so You can typically wait for it. This should be done at least once every 3500 to 5000 miles.
