On the 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse, You'll find the starter located a little bit below the intake manifold and close to the firewall. To replace this part, You'll first want to remove the negative battery cable, and then jack up the Eclipse, and rest it on some jack stands; the easiest way of getting at the starter is going to be from underneath. If You want, You can access from the top by removing the air cleaner duct work, but it's much more awkward, so I recommend coming in from the bottom. Hold the jokes, folks. From underneath, remove the solenoid electrical harness from the starter, and push in the locking tab to take off the plastic harness. Then, take off the nut that holds the ground wire, and pull the wire off the stuff there. Finally, remove the two bolts holding the starter to the back of the bell housing, and let it drop down. Replace by reversing this procedure: Expect to pay around $200 to $400 depending on what brand You buy to replace it.
