The starter on the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt is located in the engine compartment, on the driver side of the engine block, under the intake manifold and near the firewall. The starter is used to crank the engine when You turn the key to be able to start the vehicle and without it the car wouldn't be able to start. The tools needed to be able to replace the starter is floor or other jack, jack stands or wood supports, 8mm deepwell socket, 13mm socket (1/4" drive), 15mm socket, 3/8 or 1/2" ratchet and 3 and 6" extension bar. When the starter is going bad You will hear clicking noise when trying to start it and it won't start, the engine won't crank, smoke is coming from the car or oil has soaked the starter. The cost of a new starter is anywhere from $50 to $70 depending on where You get it from.
