The intermediate shaft speed sensor is one of the transmission's sensors that is responsible for relaying shaft speed to the PCM or power control module. The 2009 Dodge Journey is equipped with three speed sensors, mounted to the transmission that include one for input, an output sensor and a transfer shaft or "intermediate" sensor. To locate remove the front left wheel. The ISS should be bolted next to the stamped steel cover panel on the transmission. It is secured with a 9mm bolt. If it is compromised data needed to determine shift timing will be missing and/or inaccurate. Symptoms of a failing ISS include harsh or absent shifting, failure of the speedometer, throttle hesitation, frequent stalling, reduced engine performance, mIS Fires and a reduction in fuel economy.
