Subaru recommends that You tighten the lug nuts on Your 2009 Impreza to 80 foot pounds per lug. This will give You adequate torque to keep the lug nuts on the wheels while You are driving. When You are changing a tire You can remove the lug nuts using an impact driver. These can be very useful to break the torque that is put on the lugs. When You put the lugs back on though You should always use a torque wrench. An impact driver can put too much torque on the lugs and that can strip out Your wheel studs. Always make sure that Your torque wrench is calibrated so that You know You are getting an accurate torque reading.
