The 2010 Nissan Maxima uses a power steering pump to circulate lubricants in and around steering gears so the wheels move with ease. PS fluid levels should be maintained to prevent damage to the pump and steering hydraulics. The Maxima's pump is lubricated by multi-vehicle synthetic PS for Asian vehicles. Acceptable brands include Prestone and Lubeguard, among others. You should be able to find the PS reservoir on the passenger side of the engine bay next to the coolant reservoir. The plastic container is usually marked by symbols or letters identifying it on a black cap. If the Maxima's reservoir levels need attention You will notice whining or high pitched noises while turning the wheel.
