The 2010 VW GTI uses SAE 5W-30 oil. Volkswagen also recommends that You use full synthetic oil when You need to change it. There are two main types of oil on the market, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic is engineered in a lab to give You greater lubrication compared to conventional which is petroleum based. Synthetic oil also lasts longer meaning that You will need to change it every 7,500 miles compared to conventional which needs to be changed every 3,500 to 5,000 miles. I recommend that You check Your oil at least once a month so that You can make sure that it is full and free from debris. Signs of debris and low oil levels can mean that it will permanently damage Your engine.
