On the 2.4L 4Cylinder variant of the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, You'll have an electric power steering system, therefore not using power steering fluid at all. In the larger V6 engine, it's recommended that You use DEXRON-ViAutomatic transmission fluid; luckily, this is the same fluid that goes into Your transmission, so if You have a jug on hand, it's simple for it to do double duty. It's also possible to use a general power steering fluid, provided it is synthetic. It may be best practice to drain and fill Your system if You're unsure of what's already in there, since mixing different types can lead to separation. When in doubt, stick with the DEXRON-ViATF; it's what the owner's manual recommends. Good enough for GM, good enough for me.
