The fuel filter on the 2011 Ford Explorer is going to be inline with the fuel tank on the passenger side. Here's how You replace it, which You ought do ever 30k to 40k miles. First, disconnect the battery ground cable: That's going to be the black one, most the time. Then, relieve the pressure on the fuel system by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the engine, which You'll leave idling until it stalls. Crank the engine for about another 5 seconds to verify the pressure is released and then turn off the ignition. At this point You can raise the vehicle, and locate the fuel filter over on the passenger side by the front wheel well, under the door. Remove the curved shield (The fuel filter heat shield). Now, You can disconnect the quick release and spring lock couplings, finally removing the fuel filter and caps. Reverse this process after You drop the new fuel filter in where the old one was.
