The 2011 Volvo XC60 uses SAE 5W-30 motor oil. Volvo recommends that You use synthetic oil whenever You need to change it as well. There are two main types of oil that are on the market these days, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic is a newer type of oil that is engineered to give You greater wear protection and longer life than the petroleum based conventional option. This means You will need less frequent oil changes, usually every 7,500 miles compared to the normal 3,500 to 5,000 miles. You should still check Your oil at least once a month. You will want to make sure that it is properly filled and free from any signs of debris or burning that could damage it.
