As of model year 2013, the Nissan Altima no longer has a slot for the key fob. If You look to page 5-10 of the owner's manual, You'll see the process by which You can start Your vehicle in the event that the battery happens to die. To complete this process, You'll need to hold the fob next to the ignition button, and press the button to start. While this can be an inconvenience, it's much better handled than in some similar vehicles. You'll want to ensure You stay on top of maintenance, like changing out Your key fob battery at 20-22 month intervals, before it's likely to die. This may cost You a few extra dollars over the long term, but it's worth it for the peace of mind.
