The 2014 BMW 328I uses a hydraulic pump to circulate lubricants in and around power steering gears and pistons in certain engines. Other models and years employ an electronic power steering or EPS system. The reservoir, if equipped, is found on the driver's side of the engine bay next to the engine and is designated by a black cylindrical container. It will be marked on the cap as well. BMW vehicles use CHF 11 ATF fluid to lubricate the power steering. If fluid levels are allowed to drop damage to the pump and hydraulics may occur and You will notice whining or high pitched noises when turning the wheel.

The power steering pump on the 2014 bmw 328i is in the front of the engine, next to the alternator an air conditioning compressor. The fluid is inside the column with the pump.
