If You receive a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) of 27C3 on Your BMW, that's a "Thermal Oil Sensor", which is a fancy way of saying the oil level sender is indicating a low oil condition. If Your oil is actually low, then properly topping it off will make this go away when You restart Your engine. On the other hand, if the sensor is failing, then You'll need to address that. Typically, if there aren't any other issues with the vehicle, it's going to be a failed sensor. The sensor is located to the right of Your oil pan (and You're looking upwards, from underneath). It's at the end of the (typically) red insulated wire there, which can be disconnected via tabs, and then the filter itself ratcheted out.
