The AudiQ5'S3.0 TDI's premium plus diesel engine requires the use of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic engine oil. In a pinch, it's possible to use SAE 5W-40 (even conventional) over short periods, but it's not recommended for the long haul because of inferior viscosity. In short, the numbers in an engine oil's title are the viscosity -- first, at starting temperature and second, at operating temperature. 5W-40 indicates that the oil has a viscosity of 5 at startup, and 40 at peak operation. Likewise, 5W-30 indicateS5 and 30, respectively. Lower numbers are better, and a superior viscosity will lead to increased engine performance and longevity. Therefore, it's always important to use the lowest numbered oil recommended by Your manufacturer, even if it costs a little more. In this case, that engine oil is SAE 5W-30 synthetic.

Oil in the 2016 audi q5 differs by form of fuel. A synthetic oil with sae 5w-40 is recommended for the 2.0 T premium and 3.0 T premium gasoline engines. With the 3.0 Tdi premium plus diesel engine, you can use synthetic oil, but the model is 507, vmp 5w-30.
