The Chevy 2500HD with the 6.0L gasoline engine uses SAE 5W-40 engine oil. Chevrolet recommends that You use synthetic oil when You need to change it as well. There are two main types of oil that are on the market, synthetic and conventional. Synthetic oil is engineered to give You better wear protection and longer life than the standard conventional petroleum based option. This means You will only need to change synthetic every 7,500 miles compared to 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. You should make sure to check Your oil at least once a month to make sure that it is full. When You do this check You should also make sure that it is free from debris or signs of burning which would make it very dark.

Um Kelly you might want to go back to school. There are 4 quarts to a gallon. Meaning the would be 10 quarts of oil is equal to 2.5 gallons. The 6.0 holds 6 quarts of oil 5w-30 conventional oil. I know this because I own a 2006 chevy Silverado2500 HD with the 6.0liter motor.
I have a 2015 2500chev hd, what oil and filter would one recommend, it has 200,000 miles?

2.5 gallons is about 4 quarts too much foe a 6.0. And 10w30 is the best to go with. Full synthetic

Make sure that you specify what type of engine you have. Gas or diesel. Diesel takes a bit more oil than the gas engine.
