If You see a check engine light come on at Your dash You should try to make sure to get off the road as soon as possible to prevent damage to Your engine. When You have reached a safe spot You should then use an OBD II scan tool to read the code that was thrown to the ECU. A code P1101 means that there was a fault detected with Your mass air flow sensor. This is usually caused either by a leak in Your intake, or a damaged sensor that is not working properly. First thing to check is that the intake is not leaking, and then check the wires to the sensor to make sure they are not loose or damaged. If all of that is fine then I recommend replacing the sensor.

The p1101 code in a Chevy malibu means that the maf sensor is out of the self test range and this could be because of loose clamps on the sensor or a leak of air around the sensor.

If u see a.check engine light you don't have to get off the road immediately. If a red engine light comes on that oil pressure or temperature. If the check engine light is flashing then stop as soon as u can to have checked. A flashing check engine light suggests a more serious issue that could damage the catalytic convertor
