Replacing the VTC actuator in a Honda CR-V is a pretty easy process and it is not too expensive to do. Replacing one should cost about $20 to $40 in labor and $180 to $250 in parts depending on the cost of labor and parts in Your area. That gives You a total price range of $200 to $290 for the job. The VTC actuator in Your Honda has the job of keeping the intake valve timing accurate. If You have one of these failing You will usually notice that Your car runs rough and You will want to replace it to get the vehicle running right again. You may also notice that the VTEC system does not work properly.

The labor $20-$40 is not accurate. I’m a Honda Master Technician. The VTC replacement labor time is typically 4.5 hours for just the actuator and most dealerships are around 150 per labor hour if not more. So $675 is a ballpark to pay just for labor. The part from the Honda catalog is around $265 retail. So you’re really looking at $940 before tax to get this procedure done. With all that being said if the vehicle has over 200k on the engine, your best best is to replace the cam chain, tensioner and both guides…depending if the chain is stretched past the service limit. I typically do everything for 6-7 hours of labor. At least it’s done right with peace of mind and you can’t beat Honda genuine parts. Just something to think about. These are actual numbers for this type of repair. Hope this helps someone.

My car is a 2014 CRV with less then 50,000 mile and my VTC is going out,Germain Honda in Dublin, Ohio quoted me at least $2500 to put it in. I’ll go anywhere but Honda again, first new car I had and babied it, went with Honda because of its good name and dependable, ha!

First thing, stop going to the dealership if cost is a concern. Just had the VTC actuator replaced on my 2013 CRV at my local shop. Cost $600, 2.7hrs labor (Honda TSB 09-010 says 2.0hrs while Alldata says 5.4hrs, crazy difference). Part was $146, gasket $33.

Mine was around $850 in Memphis two years ago. Now it is bad again! 😭2013 CRV. Gonna try a repair shop this time not the Honda dealership. What is the warranty on that type of work?

I call dealerships as Stealer-ships. What is logic of charging $150 hourly for labor?
Any suggestions on shops in the San Diego area to have the VTC replaced. Trying to avoid the dealership for this repair

Hi Brandon, I spoke with my local dealer's service Mgr and he told me about $2k fir replacement. Mentioned the timing chain and valves and possible metal in the oil. Seems excessive to me based on your comment above. Thoughts? Thx!!

To replace the blend door actuator on the Honda crv will cost you between $200 and $220. With labor being $80 to $100 while parts are $120.
