On the Dodge Ram (and other Dodge vehicles), You'll receive code P1521 if You've used the incorrect engine oil type. This code can be set if the viscosity is either too high or two low. Alternatively, the DTC (diagnostic trouble code) can pop up if You have a faulty engine oil pressure sensor or oil contamination. Your engine is designed with a specific oil weight and thickness in mind. Slight deviations from this are acceptable, typically on the thicker end of the spectrum. However, if You oil that's far too thick or far too thin, it can prevent normal operation of the truck; therefore, it's always recommended that You use the manufacturer's suggested oil type with the lowest weight, but no lower.

P1521 for CHRYSLER is an incorrect form of oil viscosity. 2008Chrysler has the wrong oil in it (purposely) and does not set the engine to be tested gently, but indicates P1521 if the Starscan method is used.
