Most modern model years of the Subaru Outback include the functionality to set a memory height for the rear liftgate. While the process can be a little confusing, it's actually quite simple once You know what to do. It's really a useful feature, especially if You're hauling things on the top of Your Outback; You'll set it lower to prevent any interference. First, You'll need to manually open the liftgate from the back of the car; press the open button, and when it gets to Your desired height, press the close button. Then, enter the driver's side of the car. Press the memory button, and allow it stay depressed. Go to the back of the car once more, and press and hold the close button for 3-4 seconds. You'll hear an Audible tone to confirm Your memory.

Press the set memory button next to the steering wheel and then manually unlatch the liftgate and raise it to your preferable height.
