The thermostat in a 2006 Dodge Stratus can be found at the end of the radiator hose encased in its housing next to the side of the engine. Specifically in the 4Cylinder Stratus it's traditionally located on top of the intake manifold, and in the 6-cylinder version it's mounted to the lower half of the engine block under the hood. Often drive belts and hoses must be removed to release the thermostat from its housing. Signs it's failing include the engine over-heating, erratic temperature readings in gauges as well as coolant leaks. The housing can crack and/or the thermostat can get stuck open or closed. When the car is turned off and cool it should remain closed. When operating temperatures are reached, it should open to allow coolant to flow through the radiator, to the motor and back again.

On the 2006 dodge stratus the thermostat is located under the housing near the water pump on the cylinder head.
