The fuel pump in a Mazda2 is inside of the gas tank. The gas tank has to be removed from the car in order to get to the top of it where the access panel for the pump is located. Before trying to remove the fuel pump You will want to disconnect a negative battery terminal first. When You disconnect the negative battery terminal, it disengages the electrical flow from the body of the vehicle preventing arcs that could cause a fire when working on the fuel system. Once the battery is disconnected, wait a few minutes to allow the electricity to dissipate. If the tank is more than half full You will want to drain it first to decrease the weight before trying to lower it.
