The idle air control valve on a Mazda3 is located on the beginning of the air intake above the throttle body. The IAC valve controls Your idling when the throttle body butterfly is closed it is what keeps the idle nice and smooth. To remove it, take the plastic engine cover off then disconnect the electrical connector from the valve. Next remove the two bolts from either side, be careful to not drop them because they would be difficult to recover. The valve will be free once both bolts are removed, be careful not to damage the gasket under it. A new one will cost between $30 and $40, a reputable repair shop will likely charge $50 to $70 for their labor costs to replace it.

You can find the Mazda 3 idle air control valve on the right side of the engine underneath the air filter housing mounted on the throttle body.
