The Mazda626 uses SAE 5W-30 oil in the engine whenever You need to change it. Mazda recommends that You use synthetic oil every time that You change it as well. Synthetic oil is a newer type of oil that is engineered in a lab to give You greater wear protection and longer life than the standard petroleum based conventional option. This means that You should be able to go 7,500 miles between changes compared to 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional. It is a good idea to check Your oil at least once a month in Your car. When You check it You will want to make sure that it is full and free from any signs of debris that could harm Your engine.
