The recommended timing belt change interval for the Volkswagen Passat CC is every 105,000 miles. The timing belt is driven by the crankshaft and connects to the camshaft. The timing belt sits at the front of the engine and is somewhat exposed to the elements. Over time the belt can dry out and crack and eventually fail. Bad pulley bearings can drag on and heat the belt because of friction causing the belt to fail. When the belt is properly aligned, it synC-HRonizes the piston position and the valve opening or closing. When the timing gets off, even by just a few degrees, the engine performance will be bad. The car will have trouble starting, will idle roughly and the fuel economy will be drastically reduced.
