The 2006 Chevy Impala 3.5 Liter v6 camshaft position sensor can be found under the power steering pump on the right side of the engine. The sensor is situated in the cylinder head sealing line that is on the belt side of the engine, right at or below the valve cover. The main function of the camshaft sensor is to define the camshaft's location as it is connected to the crankshaft. In order to calculate the amount of fuel it requires to inject for combustion and power, this data is then sent to the powertrain control module for use with the fuel injector and ignition system control. The ignition engine light on, trouble starting the vehicle or no launch, and the car jerking or surging forward while accelerating are some of the indicators to watch out for if You suspect You have a defective sensor.
