The crankshaft position sensor for a 2006 Chevy Impala equipped with a 3.9L V6 engine is going to be on the firewall side of the engine, directly behind it. If You are accessing Your vehicle from underneath You can see it between the oil and transmission fluid pans. It will be slightly above the oil pan but below the transmission pan. The sensors have been known to fail often on this engine. If You need a replacement sensor they will cost between $20 and $35. If You want to take it in to a shop the total cost is going to be between $200 and $320.
