The 2009 Chevy Malibu speed sensor can be found on the output shaft from the transmission. This is a sensor that is designed to measure the rotational speed of the output shaft and then send that information to the ECU. From there the ECU does the math and is able to send a final speed reading to your speedometer to let you know how fast you are driving. If your speed sensor has problems you will usually notice a check engine light on at your dash. Your speedometer may also have problems and it could display no speed or inaccurate speeds depending on how the sensor is failing. If you need to replace it then it is usually about $100 to change out at a shop.

Look inside or underneath the tranny to locate the speed sensor.
