The 2011 Ford F-150 5.0 transmission range sensor is located on the outside of the transmission on the manual position shaft. The cost for a replacement range sensor will vary from $50 - $100 depending on if it's an OEM or aftermarket part. The sensor is designed to tell the ECM and TCM the position of the shift lever to avoid any confusion. The part is common to go bad because they can rot out at the pins or connectors. One of the main pieces of information to remember if You are repairing this Yourself is to make sure the transmission is set in neutral. This will allow You to remove the parts and be able to put the bolts in after the removal process.

The transmission range sensor is usually located on the outside of the transmission. However some of them are located inside of the transmission - it is on the valve body.
